How to Automatically Add a Declaration Statement

A declaration statement is optional and applies to shipments going to destinations that require customs processing. It covers formal statements required by customs or the carrier that do not fit any other field — for example a preferential origin declaration or manufacturer details. It is added to the commercial invoice created for your shipment. Use a rule to add one statement to every imported order, or use conditions to add different statements to different orders.

Declaration statements are supported by express carriers only — FedEx, DHL, and UPS. Other carriers do not support this field.

Result

Once you've completed these steps:

• Imported orders receive a declaration statement automatically
• The rule appears in your store's Rules list, where you can reorder, duplicate, deactivate, or delete it

Before You Start

Make sure that:

• Your store is connected in Integrations > Stores
• You have read What Are Store Automation Rules?

Create the rule

1. Go to Integrations > Stores
2. Click Manage on the store you want to configure
3. In the Rules section, click Add order import rule under Order Import
4. Select Set declaration statement from the action list — use the search field to find it
5. Enter your statement in the Statement field
6. Click Add Condition
7. Select the field to check in the first dropdown — for example, Is international, Recipient country, or Carrier
8. Select the operator in the second dropdown — for example, is, is not, or is in
9. Enter the value to match in the third field
10. Enter a name in Rule name (optional) to identify the rule in your list
11. Leave Status set to Active
12. Click Create Rule

To match on more than one condition, click Add Condition again. All conditions must be true for the rule to apply.

Without conditions, the rule applies to every order imported from the store.

Rules run in order, and the first matching rule wins per group. To use different statements for different destinations, place your most specific rule first.

Writing the statement

Any text is accepted in the Statement field. Write in English, and be as detailed and precise as you can.
