How to Automatically Set an HTS Code for Shipments to the USA

From July 24, 2026, U.S. Customs requires a 10-digit HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) code for every product shipped to the United States. The 6- and 8-digit HS codes accepted previously are no longer valid for these shipments. Swotzy validates HTS codes on all shipments to the USA — you can only create a shipping label if every product in the shipment has a valid 10-digit code.

In Swotzy, both code types are set with the same action: Set HS code. To meet the US requirement, enter a 10-digit code and add a condition that limits the rule to shipments to the United States.

Result

Once you've completed these steps:

• Products in imported orders with a United States delivery address receive a 10-digit HTS code automatically
• The rule appears in your store's Rules list, where you can reorder, duplicate, deactivate, or delete it

Before You Start

Make sure that:

• Your store is connected in Integrations > Stores
• You have read What Are Store Automation Rules?
• You have the 10-digit HTS code for your products

Steps

1. Go to Integrations > Stores
2. Click Manage on the store you want to configure
3. In the Rules section, click Add order import rule under Order Import
4. Select Set HS code from the action list — use the search field to find it
5. Enter the 10-digit HTS code in the HS code field
6. Click Add Condition
7. Select Recipient country in the first dropdown
8. Select is in the second dropdown
9. Select United States of America in the third field
10. Enter a name in Rule name (optional) to identify the rule in your list
11. Leave Status set to Active
12. Click Create Rule

The rule sets the same code on every product in orders shipped to the United States. If your products need different codes, create a separate rule for each and add a second condition that identifies the product — for example Item title, Item SKU, or Item HS code.

To match on more than one condition, click Add Condition again. All conditions must be true for the rule to apply.

Available operators depend on the field you select.

Rules run in order, and the first matching rule wins per group. To set different codes for different products, place your most specific rule first.
